The United Legwear and Apparel team had the opportunity to partner with Scotch & Soda to design playful, elevated socks that highlight the brand’s signature eclectic style. Blending bold patterns, refined textures, and considered craftsmanship, this collaboration brought their Amsterdam-born aesthetic to life through fresh, wearable legwear essentials.

Scotch & Soda is defined by its free-spirited Amsterdam roots—an eclectic blend of effortless cool, vibrant expression, and unexpected detail. The brand pairs modern tailoring with playful color, pattern, and texture, creating pieces that feel both laid-back and refined. Their identity celebrates individuality, creativity, and the art of mixing the unconventional with the timeless.

The Scotch & Soda customer is curious, confident, and expressive. They appreciate quality, thoughtful details, and pieces that feel unique. With an eye for detail and a love of mixing styles, they seek clothing that tells a story—effortlessly merging comfort, creativity, and a sense of discovery.

Roles & Responsibilities
As an assistant designer, I conducted market and trend research, managed sample intake and approval, and set showroom with the most up-to-date lines. I also performed more technical roles, like writing techpacks, managing PLM entries, and creating patternsand graphics for design proposals.

Research and Development
Each season, the team would conduct online market research, trend research, and in-person shopping research to help prepare for the development of the line.
Design Process
The design team collaborated with the apparel team in Amsterdam to work on seasonal direction, brand-right artwork, and color research and palette development. Focusing on textural embroidery, knit in all-over-prints, and playful color we create fresh mainline and volume collections for men, women, and kids each season. We also offer evergreen core basics each season to provide a branded, wearable alternative to more adventurous seasonal styles.
Sample Process
For the Scotch & Soda sampling process, we focused on achieving premium hand-feel, clean graphic appearance, and color matching. We worked with multiple factory partners to ensure we could execute the highest quality.

Each season, our team designed a mainline collection, a volume collection, and a 'Core Basics,' evergreen collection for Scotch & Soda. Our offering spans from dress socks to easy, everyday pairs. We developed a strong offering of Dress-meets-Casual in alignment with this market trend, adding Scoth & Soda's signature XXX embroidery. Each design is made for comfort and personality, with details that stand out without trying too hard.
One of our standout collections, managed by my teammate, is the development of the 'City Essentials' line. This program earned such an enthusiastic response from our customers that we brought it back and made it a seasonal staple in trending multipack colors. We also offer a strong collection of core, evergreen basics, featuring multipacks in seasonless colors and every silhouette: liner, low-cut, quarter crew, and standard crew.
The collection also includes thoughtfully curated gift boxes, each packed with a mix of standout designs and everyday favorites. They make gifting effortless—whether you’re treating someone else or just want an easy, ready-to-go set for yourself. With coordinated colors, playful patterns, and premium feel, these boxes turn simple socks into something special.
